First Weekend

Saturday I went to Lindy on Sproul to swing dance. I made a friend while there and the two us us went to a Japanese candy store and got fancy ice cream sandwiches (mine was a brownie sandwich with caramel ice cream). They were very good, but I forgot to take a picture 😕, I was too busy eating it!

Sunday, Alina (my mentor from last year and a professor at YSU) Will, Payton (her students for this summer), and I went to San Fransisco to see the Japanese Tea Garden. We eat a an amazing Thai place first, then headed straight for the garden. We wondered around the beautiful site, then stopped for a few sweets at the restaurant inside. After the garden the four of us took the small hike up to Prayerbook Cross, a larger cross on top of a hill with a waterfall just outside Golden Gate park. Everything was so beautiful and it was great to catch back up with Alina! (Pictures to come!)

First Week

Everything has been so overwhelming. I have coded before but not much and in odd languages like R and Matlab. I've worked in Linux, but I pretty much pretended it was windows and avoided any additional features. I was not prepared for this internship 😂. They have begun to teach me some of the vast network that is AMReX (the software they develope) my laptop is dual booted with Ubuntu and I have begun to read into the math and physics behind the problem I'm solving. I've looked at the code a little, 70% Fortran 30% C++, and all of it is beyond me. I'm starting to get the hang of Fortran and coding in Linux but C++ is still beyond me. I have already learned so so so much and its only been 5 days, I can't imagine where I'll be in the end. It'll be interesting to see if I can keep up!
